F is worth 4 points and there are only 2 F tiles, so when you draw one it feels like an opportunity. The trick is not rushing it onto a low-scoring spot. Short words like "foe", "fig", and "fox" are fine for clearing your rack, but if you can hold out for a premium square, "fizz", "flex", or "flux" can score much better.

Are there any F words that are surprisingly valid in word games?

A few that catch people off guard: "fa" is a valid Scrabble word (the musical note). "Feh" is a real interjection that shows up in most official word lists.
